There is something especially inviting about a real fire seen through an open steel basket. Fire baskets and braziers bring the flicker of burning logs into view, creating an atmospheric focal point for conversation and relaxed evenings in the garden.

Choose the look that suits your outdoor space. Traditional barred baskets have an open, uncomplicated character, while mesh-sided and perforated drum designs frame the flames differently. The HEAT Skal offers a square, vertical-bar design; the HEAT Mandal combines a round basket with a removable ash pan. BonFeu BonVes models give the fire basket a contemporary drum-inspired shape.

If you would like to cook as well as keep warm, selected models offer that extra flexibility. BonFeu BonVes 34 and 45 include a BBQ grill grid, with their plancha plates sold separately. The HEAT Fire Drum also includes a grill grid, while the Lifestyle Signa combines a brazier with a compact cooking setup. Check each product’s included-items list rather than assuming every basket is suitable for cooking.

Compare overall dimensions, basket shape and practical details such as ash collection, handles and included tools. Allow room around the appliance as well as for the basket itself. Handles are for repositioning only once the fire is out and the appliance has cooled fully.

Use your fire basket outdoors on a suitable level, non-combustible surface and follow its instructions for fuel and clearances. Mesh and ash pans do not eliminate escaping sparks or heat beneath the appliance. After use, let everything cool completely, remove cold ash and follow the manufacturer’s storage and care advice. Steel finishes can weather with exposure; BonFeu BonVes steel naturally rusts in damp conditions.

FAQs

A fire basket usually has upright barred, mesh or perforated sides that hold logs while allowing a view of the flames. A fire bowl has a more open, dish-shaped form. Both create a garden focal point, but their shape, height and ash-management features vary by model.

Selected models are designed for cooking with an appropriate grill. BonFeu BonVes 34 and 45 and the HEAT Fire Drum include grill grids; the Lifestyle Signa also has cooking functionality. Not every fire basket is a barbecue, so check the product details and use only approved cooking accessories. BonVes plancha plates are sold separately.

Use the fuel specified by the manufacturer for your chosen model. The wood-burning designs in this range are intended for log fires, but charcoal compatibility should not be assumed. Follow the appliance instructions for fuel type, log size and loading.

Do not assume decking or grass is suitable. Fire baskets produce heat beneath and around the appliance, and sparks or embers can escape. Use an appropriate level, non-combustible surface and follow the manufacturer’s placement and clearance instructions. An included ash pan is not a guarantee of surface protection.

Allow the fire basket and ash to cool completely before cleaning. Remove cold ash and follow the manufacturer’s guidance on drying, covering and storage. Steel can weather or rust, particularly in damp conditions; this is expected for some designs, including BonFeu BonVes. Move or cover the appliance only when fully cool.
