This is the price point where outdoor cooking stops being an afterthought and starts being a considered purchase. The range is broad — gas BBQs, charcoal grills, pellet smokers, plancha islands, pizza ovens, masonry fireplaces, fire bowls, and the first modular kitchen components all sit here. The key is knowing which category fits your space and cooking style before you start comparing models.

Gas BBQs (from £529) Barbecook, Enders, and Lifestyle Appliances cover the gas side of this range. Barbecook's Siesta and Brahma series offer 3–5 burner configurations in stainless steel, built for permanent patio use. The Enders Kansas Pro 3 sits at the top of this bracket. These are conventional gas BBQs — reliable, easy to control, and straightforward to maintain. If you want gas and you're not ready to commit to a built-in setup, this is the range to look at. Charcoal and wood BBQs (from £519) Callow's masonry BBQs — stone and concrete, fixed installation — start in this range, with several models including built-in side tables and storage. Buschbeck offer a similar approach: refractory-lined masonry fireplace and BBQ combinations that function as both a grill and an outdoor fireplace. These are permanent garden features that arrive on a pallet. GRLLR's ceramic kamado grills also enter this range — charcoal-fuelled, ceramic-bodied, capable of low-and-slow smoking at 110°C or high-heat searing above 300°C.

Plancha grills and outdoor kitchen islands (from £549) BonFeu's BonBiza and BonBiza XL are wood-fired plancha grills and fire pits in one — Corten steel, designed to weather rather than degrade. Cook on the plancha, then clear it and use the fire for the rest of the evening. Barbecook's Nestor and Cozze's plancha range sit alongside these. Several of these units are designed as the starting point for a setup you expand over time. The full BonFeu island configurations move into our £1,000–£2,000 range.

Pellet grills and smokers (from £549) GMG's Ledge Prime and Trek Prime pellet grills sit in this range — WiFi-connected, set-and-leave temperature control, wood-pellet fuel. Pellet grills are the closest thing to a gas BBQ in terms of convenience, but with genuine smoke flavour. You set the temperature, load the hopper, and walk away. If you want smoke without the attention that charcoal demands, this is the category to look at.

Pizza ovens (from £519) Cozze's 13" and 17" gas pizza ovens are the entry point — compact, gas-fired, and capable of 400°C+. Fontana's countertop wood-fired ovens sit at the top of this bracket. These are movable units rather than fixed installations. Fixed stone pizza ovens with stands move into our £1,000–£2,000 range, and Italian-made built-in ovens are in our £2,000 and above range.

Modular outdoor kitchen components (from £529) Sunstone's stainless steel cabinet range starts here — individual storage units, drawer units, and grill cabinets designed to be configured to your space. Cozze also offer modular kitchen units in this range. The built-in grills that pair with these cabinets move into our £2,000 and above range. If you're planning a full outdoor kitchen build, starting with the cabinet layout before committing to a grill is a sensible approach.

Fire pits, fire bowls, and outdoor fireplaces (from £519) Buschbeck's masonry fireplace range — refractory-lined, fixed installation — doubles as a BBQ grill and an outdoor fireplace. Happy Cocooning's gas fire pits and MOODZ fire bowls cover the more portable end. Elementi's entry-level gas fire tables also appear in this range. If your priority is warmth and atmosphere rather than cooking, the Buschbeck fireplaces are the most substantial option at this price point — built to last decades and look better with age.

Blackstone griddles (from £549) Blackstone's flat-top gas griddles are the outlier in this collection — no grates, no grill marks, just a large flat cooking surface. Better for smash burgers, eggs, stir-fries, and batch cooking than for traditional BBQ. If you cook for a crowd or want something genuinely different from a conventional grill, worth a look.
